Post Is my computer dead ?
I think my 8 year old computer is dead or suffering from some hardware failure .
Running XP , 1.6 processor , 512 ram .
It boots up fine , get all icons on desktop , mouse moves around blah blah .
Can sometimes get on the net or open folders for a short time then all comes to a grinding halt .
Only things I've done out of the ordinary are d/loaded the latest AVG and the 3 auto updates . Problems started happening after that .

Any guess's as to WTF ?

Uninstall AVG. We had AVG 8.5 on all our teaching PCs. I upgraded them all to 9.0
and two wouldn't run it...weirdness somewhat like your PC. I went back to 8.5.

Just a thought....how long was your PC unplugged when you moved?
The BIOS battery can start to die on old PCs. The drain on them is worse when
the PC is unplugged for long lengths of time.

Yep Ken , thought it may have been the AVG so tried to uninstall it . Think most of it went but by which time it started to die .

Will try the Bios battery and see how that goes .

Well all back up and running now .
Hadn't had alot of time to try and nut things out and time was what I needed !
It turned out to be the AVG 9.0 that stuffed everything up .
I thought I'd uninstalled it but hadn't ( probably turned off the power after becoming frustrated )
Took 11 hours to uninstall and one reboot and all is well again .
Bloody hell 8O

It doesn't look like AVG 9.0 was well beta tested. :-(
